Rome Now and Then Video Footage

Mise à jour le mercredi 31 janvier 2024 par Danila Loginov

Greetings, everyone!

We are continuing to recreate ancient Rome in 3D as it existed in the 4th century CE. Now, in response to the requests from our audience, we present Rome in the “Now and Then” format. In our latest YouTube video, you can witness a side-by-side visual comparison of modern Rome and ancient Rome from the exact same vantage point.

The modern views of Rome were captured by me in February 2020, right on the eve of the “pandemic.” Thus, these video sequences are already a narrative in themselves, nearly four years old.

The comparisons between then and now are categorized into three main blocks:

1) The heart of the Eternal City, featuring views of the Colosseum, the Imperial Forums, and Via Sacra.

2) Views of the Circus Maximus, of which only minor visible fragments remain today along with a large open space.

3) The Baths of Caracalla, whose ruins are awe-inspiring even now, originally appearing even more impressive.

These video comparison blocks are interspersed with scenes of flying over ancient Rome, providing a comprehensive sense of the beauty and grandeur of the ancient city. You can witness the panorama of the Tiber River, the Capitoline Hill, and the Palatine Hill from a bird’s-eye view.

I hope this video will be beneficial to everyone, particularly to tourists in Rome who wish to gain an understanding of how a specific popular location appeared in ancient times.
