The Post, March 23, 1988

Barbara Baer Capitman was nominated for a three-year term on the Board of Directors of Preservation Action, announced by Chairman Robert B. Vice. Preservation Action advocated for historic preservation and funding. Capitman, instrumental in getting the Art Deco District listed on the National Register in 1979, planned to continue supporting preservation efforts in Florida.

Excerpts and quotes from the article are highlighted below in blue.

Barbara Baer Capitman has been nominated to serve on the Board of Directors of Preservation Action for a three year term, 1988-1991 according to Robert B. Vice, Chairman, and Nellie L. Longsworth, President of the Washington based group.

Ms. Capitman who was one of the two Florida directors on the Board from 1978 to 1983 said that Preservation action was one of the key allies in obtaining listing for the Art Deco District on the National Register for Historic Places in May 1979. “And it is Preservation Action that leads the fight each year for better funding for preservation. I am pleased,” she said, “that once again I will be meeting with State Historic Preservation Officers, our Florida delegation, and the various agencies in Washington that can help further the needs of Miami Beach, Opa-locka, Coral Gables, Tampa and other cities in Florida that abound in early 20th century architecture.”
